Those of you who attended my commitment ceremony may remember seeing a blonde, wheelchair bound gentleman at the reception and oasis. This was Claudia's brother-in-law, who suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He passed away Sunday evening, from complications of ALS. If you'd like to read more about him, here is a link to his obituary: http://www.legacy.com/ohio/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=20169403
Eddie fought the disease as hard as he could, but no one ever beats it. I remember skiing with Eddie and his children in the mountains of Northern Utah just about four years ago. He was showing the first symptoms of the disease then, but he was still able to ski circles around me.
Eddie was a very special person, and he will be missed by many.

The few minutes I talked with Eddie after the ceremony and at the dinner, he communicated a lot of information about himself and his family. He was very proud of his sons and his farm. He invited me to visit his farm and thought one son would be interested in farming. Such a burden for a young family. But amazing support from all his family.
Eddie's funeral was very nice, I hear. His coffin was made of some kind of wood, and there was some etchings in the wood that resembled wheat shafts. His work boots rested near the coffin, and were filled with flowers. There also was a bale of hay in the room near the coffin, and it was arranged with beautiful flowers all over and around it. The pastor knew the Luther family well and related a lot of humorous stories about Eddie and the family. The day of the burial was very snowy - very appropriate because Eddie loved the snow, loved to work outdoors in winter, and loved to ski.
Thank you, Becky, for sharing information about Eddie's funeral. Sounds like a service that was very touching and knowing about his life.
