Methodist Children's Home
I was thinking about my father's life as a child this morning, wondering what it must have been like living as a child in the 1920's, and how difficult it must have been during his years in the Methodist Children's Home. When I got to work, I did a web search and found a site for the Methodist Children's Home in Worthington, OH. Curious whether this may be the home my father and his siblings resided in, I sent off a query, which was promptly forwarded to the people in charge of records there, and here is the reply I received:
Ms. Rude,
The files for the children were destroyed in accordance with United Methodist Children’s Home record retention procedures, as the children were all reunified with their father in 1929. However, I do have copies of the index cards from our master index for four (4) children, your father and three siblings: Roger Warren, Mary Louise, Howard Harold, and Grace Wanita. I can mail these to you if you would kindly provide your mailing address. The cards include birth dates, admission dates, discharge dates, parents’ names, and the family’s address at the time the children were placed at the home.
Sincerely,Martha Eagleton
It's the first query that has been replied to right away. I know this doesn't answer any questions, because we knew that my father and his siblings lived in a children's home, we know all of their birthdates, etc., but it's just another piece of history that I will be thrilled to receive.
If any of you would like a copy, please let me know and I will have them made and mail them to you. By the way, I think it is high time that some of the younger members of this family get involved in family history research.

Sandy Brook
We live at 30 Sandy Brook Drive, and Sandy Brook is behind our house. The cat (Nellie) and I are looking at it right now. It's pretty small, except in the spring when it rains and the snow melts. When we were looking at a house to buy Aug. 1984, Mary says let's buy this house because of the stream and we are glad we did. Nice quiet street. Of course, Stow in general is pretty quiet.
Harold and I are looking forward to Mary and Emily being home for Christmas. Going to a Boston Pops Christmas concert on the 26th.
Harold works for Raytheon in Marlborough, about a 15 min. commute. I work as the secretary of a small United Church of Christ in Stow. Make the weekly bulletins, monthly newsletters, and the only job I don't like...the annual report. I can do most of the work at home which is nice.
Glad to have more contact with everyone. You are welcome to see Sandy Brook yourself. Merry Christmas! -Susan

Just wanted to give a quick (boring) update on life for us down here in New Orleans.
Colleen and I continue to do well. We purchased a nice home this past summer and Colleen has been busy working in the yard and getting it to her liking. She loves to work in the yard. Me, I've been busy getting the living room in order with the big screen TV which where I like to be watching football or reading a good book.
Colleen continues to fly all over the country in her job as a flight attendant with American Airlines. Things have finally stabilized with the company and they are hoping that they may be able to get some of their concessions back in the next year or so which they gave up to help keep the company out of bankruptcy.
I am working for ASI Federal Credit Union here in New Orleans as the Business Relations Manger / Indirect Lending Manager. In a nutshell I make sure that our relations with our referral sources stay good and that we bring in new streams of revenue to the credit union. We have specialized in indirect auto financing and are now expanding into the cosmetic and dental fields which are also known "lifestyle" loans.
Colleen is excited as she has Christmas eve off (she hasn't had a Christmas eve off since 2001). It is tradition around here that you go around to the homes of various family members on that evening to enjoy food, drink and company. She will then fly out on Christmas Day for a three day trip. She hasn't had Christmas Day off in the entire time that I have known her. Usually (since she is working both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day I will fly out to the city she is in and spend the day with her. Lately far we have brought in Christmas in the cities of Denver, Tulsa and McAllen, TX.
Oh well, since I am at work right now typing this I should probably actually get back to work.
Hope all is well with everyone and Merry Christmas.

Rude Family blog
I think the Rude family blog is a great idea. The family is spread so far apart at times that we need a way to communicate.
Eddie
I for one definitely remember him and even through his ALS disease he always had a smile for everyone. He never seemed to give up and only meeting him once - I wish I could have known him longer.
He will be missed by all who knew him.

Sad news ...
Those of you who attended my commitment ceremony may remember seeing a blonde, wheelchair bound gentleman at the reception and oasis. This was Claudia's brother-in-law, who suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He passed away Sunday evening, from complications of ALS. If you'd like to read more about him, here is a link to his obituary: http://www.legacy.com/ohio/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=20169403
Eddie fought the disease as hard as he could, but no one ever beats it. I remember skiing with Eddie and his children in the mountains of Northern Utah just about four years ago. He was showing the first symptoms of the disease then, but he was still able to ski circles around me.
Eddie was a very special person, and he will be missed by many.
